Peer Teaching
Part of first grade is learning how to be an independent and self-motivated learner. In order for the students to learn these valuable life-long skills, I teach the students how to teach each other. We also learn how to show respect to each other by using active listening skills and by staying engaged. When a child is the 'student of the day', s/he teaches all of the letter cluster board as well as morning corner. I then finish teaching any new concepts to be added.
Cortlen taught his first class of the year and did an outstanding job in remembering all of the questions to ask and the sequence in which to ask them! The second picture shows that he called on Baylor to answer his question. The students love it when it is their turn to teach! I love it because I have the chance to see significant growth in their skills and their self-confidence. It also provides me with valuable insight on which students need more direct instruction.
